I am sad to report the death of Mike Burkitt on 24 May.
Mike was the Branch Secretary of DHSS Leicestershire SCPS (one of our forerunner unions) in the late 70s and early 80s so some of you with very long memories may have worked with him.
He retired in 2009 and was diagnosed with a brain tumour 6 months ago.
The family are asking for donations to Cancer Research UK or Brain Tumour UK.

I remember Mike very well. We were both on the DHSS East Midlands and East Anglia Regional Trade Union Side together, with Mike as the Secretary and the now also sadly late Dawn Castle (later Freeman) as Chair. Mike could be a good laugh as well as a valuable TU colleague and I was very sad to hear of his passing. Makes you think about the plans to raise the retirement age, when Mike had very little time indeed to enjoy his. I shall always remember and celebrate him with fondness.
